Debris flow

Hi, is it possible to have some hints regard a debris flow simulation (setting up the model) ? I've read the user manual and gave a look at the test cases but I didn't found anything helpful. Is maybe the software not properly for this issue?

Bests Regards,

Diego

Re: Debris flow

Hi Diego

Basement is developed to simulate water flow (Newtonian fluid) using the St. Venant equations and sediment transport using the Exner-equation and an empirical sediment transport formula as closure condition.
This approach is widely used for bedload transport in gravel bed rivers.

Hyperconcentrated sediment flows (debris flows) are non-Newtonian fluids (e.g. much higher viscosity, different shear stresses) and at the moment cannot be modeled with Basement.
Maybe in the future new model approaches for hyperconcentrated sediment flows will be implemented in Basement.

Hope this helps!
Cheers, Lukas
