New Version 3.0

Dear Users of BASEMENT

We are pleased to announce the release of BASEMENT version 3.0 for both Microsoft Windows and Ubuntu (Linux) operating systems. Due to substantial changes in the software design, the new version 3.0 exhibits a significantly improved performance compared to previous versions. Additionally, general purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU) is supported, but currently limited to Linux operating systems.

Besides the significantly improved performance, the major version 3.0 comes with a new user interface and workflow that enables customizable simulations. For now, the features of version 3.0 are still limited to 2-D hydro- and morphodynamics and bed-load transport with uniform sediment. The roadmap for further development of the BASEMENT software includes the enhancement of version 3.0 towards the simulation capabilities of version 2.8 and further maintenance of version 2.8 at least for the next five years. In doing so, mixed sediment transport, suspended load transport and the revision of the 1-D model will be implemented with high priority.

The release notes and the summary of features provide an overview of the available functionalities of BASEMENT version 3.0, while the migration guide provides a comparison between version 2.x and version 3.x.

Re: New Version 3.0

Dear users,

We are glad to announce a bugfix release of v3.0.

We recommend to all users to update their program as well as the user manual to version 3.0.1. All users are kindly asked to test their models with this version and give feedback if the program behaves in an unexpected behaviour.

All changes can be tracked in the Release Notes 3.0.1.
